Wednesday Mar 17, 2021
We close off Women's History Month by taking a look back at a forgotten classic of the French New Wave, Cleo From 5 To 7 directed by the iconic Agnes Verda, often credited as the Mother of the French New Wave. And discuss how this amazing and flawed film broke ground in inverting the trope of the cool French girl and critiqued the male gaze and gave women of the 1960s a voice in the otherwise male-dominated art movement, and mocked the inherited sexism of the genre the film industry at the time, issues that persist to this day, with the strictly enforced dress code of the Cannes Film Festival, and the lack representation of women in the French film industry.

In celebration of Women's History Month, we take a look at Daisies, directed by Věra Chytilová, one of the most subversive and anarchistic films of the short-lived and often overlooked Czechoslovak New Wave, the Eastern Blocks answer to the counter-culture movement of the West. Our first-ever TV special! Watchmen, the 2019 HBO series developed by Damon Lindelof based on the seminal1986 graphic novel by Allan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Set 34 years after the horrific false flag attack on New York by the rogue ex-masked hero Adrian Veidt AKA Ozymandias, that leftover 3 million men and women dead by a psychic squid attack from another reality, and leaving millions more psychologically scarred. Now Tulsa PD detective Angela Abar AKA Sister Night, a survivor of a domestic terrorist attack known as the White Knight Massacre, and great-granddaughter of Hooded Justice the first-ever masked hero in the Watchmen alternate reality, and survivor of the horrific Tulsa race riots of 1921, must work together with Laurie Blake daughter of famed heroes The Comedian and Silk Specter to stop tech billionaire, the enigmatic Lady Trieu from trying to kill the near-immortal godlike being known as Doctor Manhattan and using his powers to bend humanity to her will. A powerful allegory to the current state of race relations, the prolific usage of masks in our modern world ravaged by COVID-19, the long-lasting effects of societal trauma and the ever-growing militarization of the US police force. And we ask the question, who watches the watchers?

Come on you apes, you wanna live forever!
The sci-fi action classic, directed by the mad Dutchmen Paul Verhoeven, the dark satirical classic, that as Verhoeven once stated "War will make fascists of us all". Or as we like to call it, a big dumb action film that mocks America's big dumb imperialistic motivations over the past 40 years. A wonderful mockery of a system that relies heavily on the body of minority groups in order to fuel its nefarious needs. In other words, some of us can't join our preferred sports teams or use our preferred bathrooms, but we can all die in the military.

Monday Jan 18, 2021
We team up with longtime contributor, Rudy and discuss the glorious dumpster fire of a film, the cyberpunk b-movie classic, Johnny Mnemonic, staring our lord and savior Keanu reeves. Based on the William Gibson short story of the same name. Set in January 2021. A film widely forgotten by the mainstream, and still considered a weird cult film only known to the truly dedicated fans of sci-fi and cyberpunk. Yet has seen a bit of a resurgence as of late with Reeves now voicing Johnny Silverhand in CDPR's Cyberpunk 2077, and his return as Neo in the Matrix 4.
